Highlights of the Sofia walking tour: Alexander Nevski Cathedral – the biggest one in Bulgaria and according to many – the most spectacular building in Sofia, National Gallery for Foreign Art, St. Sophia Church, the Holy Synod, National Assembly Square, where in the middle of the square sits the impressive Tsar Osvoboditel (King Liberator) monument erected in 1907 by the Italian sculptor Arnoldo Zocchi, Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, St. Nikolay Russian Church, former Royal Palace (now housing National Art Gallery and Ethnographic Museum), National Theatre, St. Nedelya Church – an old metropolitan church, the Administration of the President, National Archaeological Museum, 16th century Banya Bashi Mosque, St. George Rotunda.
