One day tour to Plovdiv and Bachkovo Monastery
Plovdiv is the second biggest town in Bulgaria and one of the oldest in Europe. The Old Town or the charming historic quarter of the city possess fabulous architectural ensembles of beautifully decorated 19th century houses, ancient fortresses, stadium and theaters and magnificent religious temples. The 2-hour walking tour in a fun and educational way will introduce you to all the major sites of Plovdiv. There will be time to take advantage of excellent shopping opportunities and have lunch.
Bachkovo Monastery (est. the year 1083) is a notable religious and tourist site. Enjoy the unique frescoes of the dining room and the facade of St. Nicholas Church, while your guide explains about the history, architecture and nowadays life in the monastery. The monastery is in the Rhodopi Mountains and breath-taking views of the nearby peaks and forests adds-up to the overall experience.
Tour schedule:
8:30 Pickup from the parking behind Al. Nevski Cathedral and in front of "La Cattedrale" restaurant.
10:30 Arrival in Plovdiv and a 2-hour guided walking tour of the Old Town (entrance fees are not included).
12:30Free time for lunch and shopping.
14:00 Departure from Plovdiv to Bachkovo Monastery
14:30 Arrival at Bachkovo Monastery and tour of the complex.
15:00-15:30 Transfer back to Sofia
17:30-18:00 Arrival at Al. Nevski Cathedral (the initial starting point of the tour)
